Brian J. Hurt was born on June 15, 1920. He served as a Staff Sergeant and tail gunner in the U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II, assigned to the 702nd Squadron of the 445th Bomb Group. On September 27, 1944, he was killed in action when his B-24 Liberator, aircraft #44-10511, crashed near Gerstungen, Germany.

SSGT Hurt is buried at All Souls Catholic Cemetery in Sanford, Florida. His mother, Rose Anne Higgins Hurt, was recognized as a Gold Star Mother for her son's sacrifice.
